Welcome back to My Jamaican Vignettes. We ended up on an unplanned break but we are back and with a new schedule – two new posts each month and yes, we are sticking to Sunday. I believe this will be temporary. I just need to get back into the groove of writing and blogging. But let’s focus on what we are here for today, my August 2025 hopes.

August 2025 Hopes

These are not rigid goals, not that I don’t believe in the value of goal setting and intentionally working towards them but for now I want to gently discover some things and make up my mind and do reset in terms of what I want or hope to achieve with the MJV community.

Here is what I want for August:

  1. Enjoy Independence Day holiday break. I am tired and I am looking forward to sleeping in and very slow mornings and relaxing, no-pressure days.
  2. Find and read a book that actually engages my mind and holds my attention. I didn’t read anything in July or rather I didn’t finish anything on that summer reading list, no progress.
  3. Work on my new passion project – planning and research.
  4. Brainstorm, research and write the blog posts for August and September.
  5. Figure out my Substack – here it is follow me/subscribe, thanks. I need to understand how to sync what I draft on my phone in the app with the web version and how to create a welcome and thank you message to new subscribers. And I need to decide how frequently I want to publish.
  6. Spend quality time my family.
  7. A beach day? A river day? I need to be near water. This has to happen. I want a friend with a pool. Hahaha. Or maybe I need to become the friend with the pool. Am I unlocking a 2026 wish or dream? Maybe.

That is it. Those are my August 2025 hopes.

Nothing too heavy. I have zero July wrap up to offer. I watched a few things on Netflix that I enjoyed – Untamed with Eric Bana held my attention. I fell down the Amy Bradley is Missing rabbit hole after watching the Netflix three-part documentary, my FYP on TikTok was filled with folks with theories. I won’t share my theories here, but if you like true crime, maybe watch it. I will say that I don’t like the angle chosen and how the Caribbean was portrayed as well as hospitality workers. I will leave it at that.

How has your summer been going?

Did you have a planned summer vacation, staycation or getaway? Travel plans?

What have you been reading and loving?

Until next time, take care of yourself.

  1. The summer goal is to stress less and find my feet with a new writing project but allow it to happen without too much pressure on myself.

    1. This sounds good. I hope you find your new writing adventure.
